July

Doom Charts July 2024

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going into the Doom Charts. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”

~ J.R.R. Tolkien (probably misread quote)

The midyear mark has passed, and with it another massive month of heavy albums the Doom Charts couldn’t wait to get their mitts on. Like Gollum and his precious, we adored and could scarcely tear ourselves away from one release after another, driving ourselves into a frenzy that would put a citrus colored goblin to shame. But enough Tolkien jokes, filthy hobbitses, ascend… Mount DOOM!

Albums I submitted that made the list:  EREMIT – RISE OF THE RUAN~ANG, PATRIARCHS IN BLACK – VISIONING, ESPECTRO DE LA CONCIENCIA – FIN DEL TIEMPO, DEAD MONARCHS – TITAN, GODS & PUNKS – DEATH, DOOMBOYZ – EVIL RIFFS FROM LOS ANGELES, SARAJAH – SARAJAH, KING ZOG – SECOND DAWN, BLACK CAPRICORN – SACRIFICE DARKNESS AND … FIRE, ORANGE GOBLIN – SCIENCE, NOT FICTION

June

Doom Charts Peroration June 2024

“There you stood on the edge of the Doom Charts… Expecting to fly…”

~ Buffalo Springfield (probably misheard lyrics)

Here we are again. On the edge. And down there, down below you find 28 albums that received a ton of love from the various Doom Charts Contributors. Maybe they already wrote about it for their own personal sites, maybe they wrote it and hoped it would reach the published edition of the Doom Charts or maybe the album made it to the published edition, but not to the top 25 that receive blurbs… Or yes, maybe it received too many blurbs to publish on the regular edition. Whatever the reason, the Contributor that wrote about it, loved it thoroughly and wants all of you to hear it as well. And since most of us will agree on the fact that there’s a lot, a whole freaking lot, of good and heavy rock out there, every little push in the right direction is welcome… So here’s that little push… Press play and fly!

Albums I submitted that made the list: Lost Pychonaut - Violent Outbursts and False Accusations, Meltem - Mare Nostrum,  Sons of Arrakis - Volume II, Vexing Hex - Solve Et Coagula,

Doom Charts June 2024

“What the Doom Charts know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean…”

~ Isaac Newton (probably misheard quote)

As we enter July we look back at the months passed and publish the Doom Charts, June 2024 edition. Voted for by many of the bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and reviewers braving the Heavy Underground. As you peruse the list you will notice that there are a lot of self-released albums on the list this month. Cause in this glorious age of independent music this is entirely possible and much easier than during the ages before.

Albums I submitted that made the list:  Black Spell - Into Darkness, Grim Colossus - Descent Into Madness, Dunerider - Long Trip, Vexing Hex - Solve Et Coagula, Weedeater - Profane Smoke Ritual, Wyndrider - Revival, SONS OF ARRAKIS – VOLUME II,

May

Doom Charts Peroration May 2024

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total DOOM”

~ (probably misread) quote from Frank Herbert’s Dune

Last month’s heavy underground was fearsome. In a year already packed with quality music and early end-of-year list leaders, there was no way all of May could be packed into one Doom Charts post. But never fear, the peroration post is here, as the Doom Charts crew’s fanaticism gives us even more write-ups and highlights of some of the bands that made May yet another glorious month for heavy.

The bands I submitted that made the list:  BOVEDA DEL SOL, WYNDRIDER,

“The DOOM is strong with this one”

~ Darth Vader (probably misheard quote from A New Hope)

We’re almost at the halfway mark of 2024, and the onslaught of quality heavy music shows no signs of stopping. Mark your lists, tally your year-end contenders, rack and re-rack your abacus, because May is yet another bountiful month of doom, stoner, sludge, psych, prog, you name it. Doom or do not, there is no try.

April

Doom Charts April 2024:

“I heard they have some tasty DOOM CHARTS burgers…”

~ Jules (probably misheard quote from Pulp Fiction)

As we cruise into the month of May and feel the approaching summer, the sweet fragrance of outdoor festivals, we present to you the April Doom Charts. Those albums that were spun the most and loved the hardest. As usual, there are many more. And you might have found a different favorite album during the month of April. Do not hesitate to share those finds with us! Cause it might be our next favorite one as well. But below you will find the list of 40 albums that were voted for by the many Doom Charts Contributors. There are 197 albums on the total list and we haven’t seen a finish in points this close for the Numbers 1 and 2 for quite some time, I reckon. But all forty are as tasty as hell… Shit, all of them are like the cornerstone of any nutritious Heavy Underground breakfast…

“I heard it on the radio

I saw it in the video

I played it on my stereo

I read it on the Doom Charts

And I loved it…”

~ (probably misheard) lyrics from Masters Of Reality

And I love it… A big thanks to all the Contributors and all those other bloggers, journalists, podcasters, radio dj’s, reviewers and spreaders of all that good and heavy stuff from around the globe! The fans that post about their new favorite album. Thank you all for your next ‘you need to check this out‘ post! We are lucky to have such a vibrant and embracing scene. Check out the albums below, find the next album you love. Check out all those personal sites listed below, they are good people, doing good work, for good music! And I love it…

The following are professions of love and adoration by Doom Charts Contributors for albums they could not stop spinning. Each month, the Doom Charts critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and other sorts of heavy rock albums. The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart which is published on the First Friday of the new month, monthly. However, sometimes a love is so great, but for whatever reason the album unfortunately did not make the published Doom Charts Edition or because there were so many contributors in love with that one album, that multiple blurbs were written, and only the one got published… Well, you can peruse that love here…

The bands I voted for on the list:  DVNE, HAUNTED, IRON MONKEY, NOTHING IS REAL, & STONERHEAD
